Warm Clothes in Winter

Winter in northern Bangladesh can be very hard. From December to February, cold waves and thick fog bring the temperature down sharply at night. Families who live in thin tin or bamboo houses, without enough blankets or warm clothes, suffer the most.

Small children and the elderly are at the greatest risk. Every winter many people fall sick with cold, fever and breathing problems, and some cannot go to work or school because they do not have warm clothes to wear.

The Prophet ﷺ said: "The example of the believers in their love, mercy and kindness towards one another is like one body. When one part of it hurts, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever" (Bukhari and Muslim). Standing beside a family that is shivering in the cold is part of being that one body.

Every winter, Giash Uddin Foundation gives blankets, sweaters, shawls, caps, socks and warm clothes for children to families who need them. We give first to the elderly, widows, orphans, people with disabilities and families with small children.

Before the cold starts, our volunteers visit villages to find the families most in need and make a list. We then hand out the warm clothes directly, at their homes or at a local distribution point, so the help reaches the right people with dignity.

Buying in bulk lets every taka go further. After the season we share how the Winter Clothing Fund was spent, so donors can see where their gift went.

You can help through our Winter Clothing Fund. A single blanket can keep a child or an elderly person warm through the whole winter. Give before the cold arrives, so the help reaches them in time.
