Zakat: A Simple Guide

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. A Muslim who has wealth above the nisab for one full year must give 2.5% of it to people who have a right to Zakat.

The Qur'an names the people who can receive Zakat, such as the poor, the needy and people in debt (Surah At-Tawbah 9:60). Zakat is not a favour to them. It is their right.
